FAQ

General and precautionary instructions

  • An automatic watch has a movement that contains a spring that is manipulated by movement (and/or winding). A tensioned spring provides the energy (by releasing its tension) that powers the mechanism. More info here.
  • Your FLORIJN is a mechanical timepiece consisting of screws, cogs, springs et cetera. Please take this into account during use!
  • If your FLORIJN is not wound up for 24-48 hours (the power reserve of your FLORIJN is about 40 hours), the watch will stop.
  • Always wind a mechanical watch clockwise.
  • Do not wind the watch while it is on your wrist. Winding it when wearing it increase the chance of damage to the mechanism.
  • Avoid contact with chemical products.
  • Avoid exposing the watch to firm bumps and shocks, such as during sports like tennis, golf, hockey or activities such as sawing, hammering, drilling, vibrating and/or other activities that cause bumps and shocks.
  • In addition, we recommend that you don’t expose the watch to extreme temperature differences.
  • If you regularly expose your watch to water, we recommend that you have your watch tested annually for water resistance.
  • Always ensure that the screw/crown remains closed whilst wearing.
  • The crown can be unscrewed. The date can be adjusted once you hear the first click after gently pulling the crown out.
  • At the second click you can adjust the time.
  • NOTE: only adjust the date when the time is between 4 and 8 hours.
  • Push the crown back with a twist and gently tighten it. Do not force it or you will damage the screw thread.
  • You should not adjust the date while wearing the watch. Take it off before you unscrew the crown.
  • Keep away from magnets. This applies to all watches, not just your FLORIJN.
  • Take a mechanical watch to a professional to clean the mechanism and to check the watch every three to five years.
  • Please contact us for advice regarding a professional in your area.

Warranty

Your FLORIJN comes with 2 year warranty. But there are a number of things that are not covered by the warranty:

  • Watch glass
  • Watch strap and clasp
  • Water damage caused by large temperature differences or an opened crown
  • Water damage caused by not observing the specific water resistance of the watch
  • All defects caused by human activity and not covered by manufacturing defects
  • Actions which are not covered by warranty for obvious reasons (dropping, severe shocks, magnetic influences, chemical products et cetera)
  • Only have your watch repaired by a professional jeweller or watch maker. Do not open the watch yourself as this will void the warranty.
  • Observe the precaution instructions. Not observing these may lead to the warranty being void.

Exchanging & Returning

Not entirely satisfied with your purchase? You can return the watch with the following items:

  • The original box
  • The original warranty certificate
  • A covering letter with the reason for returning (optional)
  • Shipping costs for exchanging or returning are to be borne by you. The amount due will be refunded to your bank account on the day the article is returned to us. Should this not be the case, please contact customer service as soon as possible. Settlement shall take place through the selling party/retailer (in this case horlogedomein.nl).

Can a watch withstand hot water?

No. The general rule is: avoid extremes. Hot water from a faucet, bath or sauna can deform the case parts and affect water resistance. Moreover, the mechanism may be damaged and the oil supply disrupted.

Can a watch withstand salt water?

In principle yes, provided you rinse the watch well with (fresh) tap water immediately after swimming.

How can I change a strap?

Your FLORIJN will come with 2 straps (leather and rubber). Another watch strap will give your FLORIJN an entirely different look. Please see the video on YouTube for how to do this yourself. Be careful as you could easily scratch the watch. Otherwise ask your jeweller to change the strap for you.

What is a NATO strap?

You can also wear a NATO strap with your FLORIJN. As the name suggests, the NATO strap has a military background. It is designed to maximise comfort and functionality. They are made of special nylon that does not stretch when wet, dry quickly and be comfortable, even when wet. Please click here for more information.

Can I have my watch engraved?

It is possible to further personalise your FLORIJN by engraving text or a name. Please contact us for this, or visit your local jeweller.
